• Please make sure your child has two extra changes of clothes, including underwear, tops bottoms and socks. 
• Drop off in the morning is between 7:45 and 8:00 am. Dismissal is at 2:45 pm.
• Please remember to bring back the sleeping mats to school 
• Monday 10/31/2022 children may come in wearing their costume 
• The Halloween Parade is Monday 31, 2022 at 8:30 AM - parents are welcome to attend at the auditorium
• After School Program will close at 6:00 PM on Monday 31, 2022

Weekly Focus: Our Bodies     

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:  

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the writing center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What do you know about your body parts? How many eyes do people have? How many noses do you have?  Could you point where is your mouth?

Students that need extra support: 

Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize their body parts. For example, "The teacher will sing the song "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes." this song will help children identify the body parts by pointing them while singing the song. The teacher will also show the children the dolls we have in the classroom, and it will help children visualize the body parts.

Students that are ready for a challenge: 

Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What are your body parts? Children will have the opportunity to explain their body parts in long sentences, the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever they say. 

ELL Students: 

Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer.

Standard Addressed: P-SE 6. Child expresses a broad range of emotions and recognizes these emotions in self and others. 

WEEKLY FOUNDATIONAL TEXT: 

Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee (author), Tonya Lewis Lee (author), and Kadir Nelson (illustrator): A behind-the-scenes look at the adventures of the baby. 

• How do you think the mama felt when the baby colored on the walls? Why? 
• The mama asked the baby to stop splashing the water. Why do you think she wanted the baby to stop? 
• Why is it important to listen to your grown-ups (such as your teachers or people your family)? 
• The baby in this book is not very helpful. it seemed like the mama got a little frustrated with the baby. Even though the mama got frustrated, what did she do at the end of the book? Why?

Learning Centers Available for the Theme: 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up. 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away. 

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting. 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished. 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away. 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library. Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards. 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.  Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week: 

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the writing center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What do you know about feelings? How do you know that you are happy? How do you recognize that you are sad? what made you feel scared? 

Students that need extra support: 

Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize feelings and emotions. For example, "The teacher will sing the song If you are happy, and you know it clap your hand...?" this song will help children identify some emotions such as happy. The teacher will show the children the emotions' dolls we have in the classroom, and they can show children different kind of feelings that people can feel. These dolls will help children identify the different emotions or feelings people can feels, and they will help children to demonstrate the way they feel now, then the teacher will ask How do you feel now? Then children will show the teacher the doll they feel identified with.

Students that are ready for a challenge: 

Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What made you feel happy? Children will have the opportunity to explain things that made feel happy? when they know they feel sad, mad, scared? and why? the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever children say.

Focused Learning Activity for the Week: Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the writing center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What things would you like to do in the classroom? What things would like to do with your friends? What things would he or she dislike doing? Why?

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize some things they really love to do. For example, "The teacher will sing the song "Do you like broccoli ice cream?" this song will help children identify things that they like and dislikes, but also to recognize things that can be good and things that are not good. For example, like is the combination of broccoli and ice cream together. The teacher will show some pictures, and the children will answer or point if they like or dislike the options and the teacher will write their answers down.

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What are some things that you love to do at school? Children will have the opportunity to explain things they like, but also things they dislike and why? the teacher will extend the conversation and will write whatever children say.

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the art center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What members are in your family? What do you love about your family? Tell me how many members of your family live with you? Tell me more about your family"

Students that need extra support: Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize some members of their family. For example, "The teacher will show the pictures we have in our family tree in the classroom? Could you tell me please who these people in the photo are?"

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What members are in your family? Children will have the opportunity to be working in a collage to draw their family using different materials and looking the picture of their family to make the draw or collage.

Wednesday 5, 2022 Picture Day. Picture money envelopes were sent home last week. Please return them to the classroom teacher before Tuesday. Individual Picture Day. Students may wear dress up clothes. No jeans, teddy bears, or hats!

For example, "The teacher will show pictures of some routines in the classroom and will ask "what will coming after morning meeting? What we do when we come back to the classroom from the playground?" 

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What are some routines that you learned in the classroom? Children will have the opportunity to be working as a helper of the day to help the teacher indicate "what is coming next after one routine pass? children will use an arrow to help children visualize the schedule we already have in the classroom.
