Weekly Focus: Our Families

Focused Learning Activity for the Week: 

Students will be encouraged to join the teacher in the math center.  The teacher will prompt the students to draw an answer to the question, "What numbers can you count with your teacher?" 

Students that need extra support: 

Will be given prompting answers and asked children recognize numbers. For example, "The teacher will say the number one showing a picture number with black dot to represent the number, after one what number is coming next? Do you like to count? Do you like to connect the numbers with the black dots?" 

Students that are ready for a challenge: 

Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What numbers can you count?" and connect them with the Unifix cubes and match with the numbers cards. 

ELL Students: 

Will be given the directions / questions in Spanish.  Dictation will be written in whichever language they answer. 

Standard Addressed: 

P-SE 6. Child expresses a broad range of emotions and recognizes these emotions in self and others. 

Foundational Text for the week: 

Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee (author), Tonya Lewis Lee (author), and Kadir Nelson (illustrator): A behind-the-scenes look at the adventures of the baby. 

• How do you think the mama felt when the baby colored on the walls? Why? 
• The mama asked the baby to stop splashing the water. Why do you think she wanted the baby to stop? 
• Why is it important to listen to your grown-ups (such as your teachers or people your family)? 
• The baby in this book isn't very helpful. It seemed liked the mama got a little frustrated with the baby. Even though the mama got frustrated, what did she do at the end of the book? Why?

Learning Centers Available for the Theme: 

Blocks- Children are encouraged to explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up. 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props and clothing provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away. 

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush, and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting. 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished. 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away. 

Library- Students can explore books from the classroom library. 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards. 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom. Students will be prompted to wash their hands before and after using the sand table.

Students that are ready for a challenge: Will be prompted to use multiple sentences when responding to the question "What is your favorite thing to do with your teacher?"

Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text: 

•What are some of the things the people in this book do together? •What things in this book do we do together? 

•In this book they share that holding someone up means taking care of them. What are some of the ways the people in this book care for each other or hold each other up? 

•What are some ways we can care for each other or hold each other up? Tell me more about that.

(15 Minutes)

Welcome to Pre-K 7

I hope everyone had an amazing summer vacation!  My name is Ms. Saydia Hossan and I am so excited to teach your little one this school year.  Below is the supply list for the year.  

Please have everything labeled with your child's name.

Child’s baby picture and family picture 

1 box of crayons 

1 smock for painting 

TWO changes of clothes in a Ziploc bag (please label all clothing items and Ziploc with child's name and last name) 

5 Extra face masks 

5 Containers of Clorox or Lysol wipes 

3 Rolls of paper towels 

2 Antibacterial liquid hand soap 

6 Packages of baby wipes (flushable preferred) 

3 Cans of Lysol Spray 

4 Packs of Printing/Copy paper 

6 Boxes of tissues 

4 Boxes of Ziploc bags 

(3) 1-Gallon size boxes and (1) 2.5-gallon size box. 

If your child is not potty trained, please provide them with easy open on the side pull-ups only.
